The AK-102 with the GP30 Grenade Launcher attachment.
A variation of the ever-popular AK-47, the AK-102 is the first firearm that you're able to wield in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. In the very beginning of Act 1 you can nab it off of the PMC troops and they also become your source for ammo. You need it more than they do anyway.
Later in the game you can purchase and add the GP30 grenade launcher. Not very stealthy, but quite the implement of destruction.
Think of this article as an expansion to my AK-47 article. To really get the full impact and understanding of the rifle variations, you might want to read both articles.
The AK-102 was made for close quarters combat which makes it an ideal weapon for special forces and even police. The barrel is shorter, which makes navigating tight, indoor places easy. However, the shorter barrel also allows the gasses to escape faster, which result in a new round not being chambered. To combat this, the rifle has a Krinkov style muzzle brake, which traps the gasses and allows the action to cycle.
The firing rate of the AK-102 can be toggled between single shot, three shot burst, and full auto.
The AK-102 has an optical plate installed on the side that fits most types of Russian and European AK optics. The gun weighs 3,000 grams (roughly 6.6 pounds) and has a firing rate of 600 rounds per minute.
AK-102 rifles are unavailable to the general American public.

Hmmm. I wonder what round it shoots. It definitely doesn't look like it shoots the same round as the AK-47 from the pic.
Perhaps it shoots the same round as the AKS-74.
I remember the AKS-74 being the best gun to use in the original Socom on the PS2, but when Socom 2 hit, it wasn't even as close to being as good.
