Kojima Wants To Take a Backseat For MGS5

Sep. 26 3:15 PM by Dylan Duarte

Hideo Kojima recently sat down with gaming website 1UP and discussed Metal Gear Solid 4 and the future of the franchise, where he stated that while he has ideas for the fifth Metal Gear Solid installment, he'd rather work on something new.

"I have three concepts for MGS5 already. What would be ideal for me with MGS5, though, is that we don't do those. If the team picks one of those concepts, I have to get involved again, which I don't want to do. There are already so many good ideas from the staff, so if we select one of those, that would be really good. At that point I could really rely on them and take the step back to be the producer, which is the ideal situation, I think."

While I have faith in a Kojima-less Kojima Productions, I also have my doubts. That said, the man has already given us a handful of fantastic entires and I would be more than happy with respecting his wishes and letting me simply sit back as producer. Also, it would let us see what he has planned next, which he also touched on.

"...I want to create something new, and it's difficult to explain since no one's seen it before. I don't know if it would sell very well. I've been warming this up for a long time, and I keep thinking that I'll try this idea. But ideas always change, so I really don't know what the final outcome will be."

Sounds mysterious!

man i hope they choose his idea and i will buy anything kojima mekes hands down.

I say he needs a rest from MGS. He's probably pretty burnt out of it by now.

Let the others handle it, and if they screw it up (which they probably won't if he's still involved in the making of the game), then he can always redeem the series.

I'm interested in seeing what other ideas he can bring to gaming. MGS is awesome, but I want to see more than just sequels.
