The Heckler and Koch G3 may sound familiar. If it does ring a bell for you, that's because it was an unlockable assault rifle in Call of Duty 4. It was a one-shot kill in Hardcore mode, as well. That's right, it was my baby.
Well the G3, specifically the G3A3, is available in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots through Drebin. Don't you think it's time you learned about it?
The Heckler and Koch G3 is an automatic assault rifle that was developed in the 1950s and has been put to use all around the world since 1958.
At the end of World War II, engineers at the German Mauser (arms manufacturer) factory created the StG45 assault rifle using a roller-delayed blowback system, which was a variant of the system used for the MG42 machine gun. The StG45 never made it past the prototype stage, but the blowback mechanism was used in a later gun.
The new rifles went through several modifications. Three versions, .30 Carbine, 7.92x33mm Kurz, and 7.65x35mm, were all developed for France. France then had to cancel their order. The engineers modified the rifle and renamed it the Modelo 2, which caught the attention of the West German Border Guards. There only stipulation was that the rifle use a cartridge that adhered to the NATO specifications. The engineers complied, as well as made a few more modifications based on the suggestions of Heckler and Koch, and produced the CETME Model B, also known as the Automatisches Gewehr G3.
There are many variations of the G3, including civilian variants like the HK41 and HK91.
The G3 and its variations have been used by over 75 countries and seen action in over 10 wars. That's not including Solid Snake's war or the war in Call of Duty 4.

I've wanted one since I used to play Delta Force Black Hawk Down online.
I've actually seen a few variants around in my local gun shops too, and they're not too expensive. The ammo, however, isn't that cheap though.
