Should we hope to play as Snake in his earliest of stages?
If you've been following the MGS series and everything surrounding it, you know that we've heard this statement before: "This is going to be the last MGS ever." We heard it when Sons of Liberty was in development, and then again when Snake Eater was in the works. But, fortunately for us, Kojima was blowing steam up our bums and we've seen many different installments in the series since the first time it was said to be "ending."
Kojima is one of those few developers who is generally known for one title. MGS made him who he is today and, like his own personal, Stealth-Action baby, he nourished it into one of the most successful franchises in games today. Think of him as the George Lucas of the gaming industry: it's extremely difficult to imagine he'll ever quit making what he's famous for and what he's best at.Sure, it's been pointed out that MGS will probably be Snake's last adventure, but Snake has had many other adventures that pre-date MGS4. Heck, I think it'd be pretty damn cool to play as Solid Snake in his earliest stages, maybe find out how extreme his voice had to crack for him to acquire such a sexy voice. It's also noteworthy that the series has made Konami more money than Snake has sedated Russians. As long as an IP makes money (even a bad one), most publishers will continue to dish out titles bearing the same name of that particularly successful franchise.
So, it's a safe bet that, if Guns of The Patriots does as well as they hope, they'll make another one. Just be sure that you convince enough people to fork over the money for a PS3, plus MGS4.
