1974 Russian Composer Sviridov and the Metal Gear Solid Theme?

Feb. 25 7:55 PM by Skye Nathaniel

Admittedly, this is old news, but it's new to me and rather surprising, so I thought I would share. Although I wouldn't want to take the leap and cry "plagiarism", the similarities between the Metal Gear Solid theme and this piece by the Russian composer Sviridov are quite striking. Have a listen:

June 12th, baby!! Hopefully I can buy a PS3 in time to get in on the MGO beta. Or maybe I should get the bundle and miss out on the beta... brain aneurysm!

Or better yet, I'm going to preorder MGS4 to get a beta key and then go back and switch my preorder to the bundle when it's available. Gamestop will totally let me do that.

I remember that video. The similarities are definitely striking, but that was Gregory Harris-Williams' work, not Kojima's, right? It was a bit frightening how Kojima laughs through the whole thing, though.

Fixing my previous post, I just remembered that the composer's name is not Gregory Harris-Williams, but it is Harry Gregson-Williams. Silly me. :P

Hey Rezarecshun... the Metal Gear Solid main theme (at least the melody) is NOT Harry Gregson-Williams's works. While he composed most of the music for MGS2,3,4, he didn't work for MGS when the main theme was created. The main theme is actually composed by another Japanese composer... (I think is TAPPY LINKS OMITTED) Harry Gregson-Williams just rearranged the main theme in later games.
