Metal Gear Mondays Gives Juicy MGO Details

Apr. 15 11:44 PM by Dylan Duarte

Every Monday at Playstation.Blog is now known as Metal Gear Mondays, where the crew will dish out loads of details about Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Online. This first installment reveals quite a bit about the MGO beta and here at OMGMetalGear we've compacted it into a small, easy-to-digest summary. Click on!

For those in North America, in order to get into the beta, you must acquire a copy of the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2 DVD, which contains a voucher code for that will allow you access to the beta. Alternatively, you could enter What If's contest as mentioned yesterday.

Once you've got your voucher code, you can download the beta from the Playstation Store starting April 17th, but the beta itself doesn't start until April 21st. The voucher will have instructions on exactly how to download the beta. It's very important to note that each code is only good for one PSN account, so don't share it with anyone or leave your voucher in the presence of any kleptomaniacs.

Once you've loaded up the beta, you'll need to register a Konami ID. This service has been around for a while in Japan and it allows you access across various Konami services. If you want to get a head start on everything, go to the Konami website here to sign up now.

After all of that is said and done, the next big step is the character creation screen. You'll be able to select up to 4 skills to specialize in. Some of the skills include close quarter combat, knife fighting, quickness, alertness, heavy weaponry mastery, demolition, and sniper mastery.

Once your character is good to go, his the lobby and find a game. Remember that the beta only offers access to a limited amount of features.

MGO uses the backdrop and control scheme of Metal Gear Solid 4. Up to 16 players can battle it out and with the Sons of the Patriot (SOP) system, you can easily communicate with your squad and visually share information like your teammates's positions, status, and who they're currently engaging.

The two maps featured in the beta will be Blood Bath, a multi-level killhouse, and Groznyj Grad, the weapons factory from Metal Gear Solid 3.

The modes will include death match, team deathmatch, base mission (king of the hill), and capture mission (capture the flag).

The Catapult!

The Catapult!

We learn that the catapult is used to fling your character across the map.

Finally, we're told that this information is subject to change, as things may be added or removed from the beta.
