CliffyB Loves Metal Gear Cutscenes

Jul. 12 1:16 AM by Dylan Duarte

Remember a while back when Cliff "Cliffy B" Bleszinski dissed Metal Gear Solid by calling it "passive entertainment" and saying that that form of entertainment is on it's way out? Well, it seems that despite his comments, Blaznats is a big fan of Metal Gear Solid and it's oh-so-long cutscenes.

Talking to CVG, Cliff remarked that he was a huge fan of Kojima and that him and his team were the best at what they do.

"The kind of scenes they do in MGS4 are phenomenal. I think it has the best sound and real-time [cut scenes] I've seen in the industry and since they're the best at what they do, players love it. It's the hallmark of the series - the camera angles and dramatic scenes and it's really taking film-making to this new digital level."

He then concluded with "In the kind of games we do, the cut scenes are around three to four minutes on average. It just says what needs to be said and moves on to letting you actually play the game."

Am I looking too far into this, or does that seem like a little jab there? It seems to me like it's a subtle criticism at MGS4 not letting you play the game.

That was definitely a little jab there at the end.

Wow, is he dumb? People were already getting the impression he disliked the cut scenes from a small comment and he makes a bigger jab.

It sounds like he's just saying they're two different types of games.
